Student Essays

Essay written by a student studying for her GED test

I once thought getting an education wasn’t important. As a rebellious teenager you think you know everything. And as time goes on, life teaches you differently. I found out how wrong I really was.

In school what I once thought was stupid, and boring, is now something I need to know. If I knew now what I didn’t know then, I would have sat a little straighter and listened a little closer, as my math teacher explained how to do a fraction.

I didn’t realize how important getting an education was, and how I needed it just to get a good job, not just on the job scene. But also on the home front. I never thought I would have a child look at me and say “mom can you help me with my homework" and me have to say “I can’t because I don’t know how."

I wish I would have understood that education is the single most important thing in my life. The first time around. So I wouldn’t have to write an essay on how I did it all wrong, but instead did it all right.

Essay written by a female student in GED class
“A decision that changed my life"

Many years ago when I was young and left school I promised myself that some day I would return and finish my schooling. As years went by my priorities changed what was important to me then was put aside.

As I became a wife and a mother raising and caring for my children became my top priority. Years went by and children have grown. So now its time for me to become the person I want to be. So by completing my life’s dream, of a high school diploma will be a better life for me. With my children all grown, and families of their own has shown me that if you follow your dream, you can become whatever you want to be no matter how old you are.
