On Tuesday, November 28, 2017, ReadWest joined hundreds of other nonprofits in New Mexico by launching its first Giving Tuesday NM campaign. The campaign was supported by the donation of autographed books generously provided by New Mexican authors as well as authors with ties to the Land of Enchantment. The books were part of drawing that eligible donors were entered into.
Read more about the books below. We also encourage you to visit the authors’ websites and/or follow them on social media to help us show our gratitude for their wonderful support of ReadWest Adult Literacy Program.

Seven rich men, missing from New York. One of his closest childhood friends is gunned down in an Albuquerque casino. After escaping two attempts on his own life and with time running out, McKenna must uncover the connection and prevent his loved ones from joining the growing ranks of the dead.”[/inwave_info_item][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][inwave_info_item title=”Cut. “Everything is going well for San Diego restaurateur Abby Silva. She is four months pregnant, and her husband Bobby is finished with his last tour as a Navy submariner, but their happiness is interrupted by a brutal robbery, followed by Bobby’s father’s sudden death. Bobby and Abby’s mixed marriage angered their families. Her wealthy white parents disowned her after she married a Hispanic, and Bobby’s father felt that his son was denying his heritage. Now Bobby wants Abby to have the baby in the tiny New Mexico town of Esperanza where he grew up so she can experience the feeling of ‘La Familia,’ where everyone helps one another. Abby reluctantly agrees, then Bobby mysteriously disappears.”[/inwave_info_item][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][inwave_info_item title=”A Growing Season” icon_size=”80″ style=”style4″ align=”center” img=”2285″]

“Hailed by Booklist as “two talented authors who vividly bring to life the beauty of New Mexico and its people,” Sue Boggio and Mare Pearl return in A Growing Season to Esperanza, New Mexico, the setting of their first book, Sunlight and Shadow. Esperanza is a community at the crossroads where a devastating drought threatens the farming community’s very survival. Vultures circle in the form of developers who see failing farms as ripe pickings for a bedroom community for Albuquerque. Court battles pit the endangered silvery minnow against the farmers as the once mighty Rio Grande shrinks from its banks even as demand for its precious water increases.”[/inwave_info_item][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][inwave_info_item title=”Long Night Moon” icon_size=”80″ style=”style4″ align=”center” img=”2285″]

“This book tells the story of the thousands of “health seekers” who journeyed to New Mexico from 1880 to 1940 seeking a cure for tuberculosis (TB), the leading killer in the United States at the time. By 1920 such health seekers represented an estimated 10 percent of New Mexico’s population. The influx of “lungers” as they were called―many of whom remained in New Mexico―would play a critical role in New Mexico’s struggle for statehood and in its growth.”[/inwave_info_item][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][inwave_info_item title=”Las Comidas de los Abuelos” icon_size=”80″ style=”style4″ align=”center” img=”2285″]
