ReadWest strives to provide its students with basic literacy, English language skills and computer skills needed to improve their employability, parenting and life skills. We provide a safe environment and hope for each student entering our facility. A student’s success is our success! ReadWest offers free one-to-one tutoring sessions for adults in the following areas:

Basic Literacy

Our volunteer tutors assist English speaking adult learners to raise their reading and writing levels in private, two hours sessions once a week. The weekly tutoring sessions are arranged according to the student’s work and personal schedule.

English as a Second Language

Tutors provide literacy and language acquisition services to adults for whom English is not a native language. Weekly, two hour, one-to-one sessions help learners acquire beginning English vocabulary and conversation as well as basic reading and writing instruction.

Computer Literacy

Tutors instruct their adult learner in basic computer use. In modules developed by ReadWest, students learn how to use the internet, set up an email account, send an email with attachments, apply for jobs and other introductory computer uses.

Need help with reading English? Do you want a reading tutor?
Do you want to speak and read English better? Do you have a friend who needs reading help?

ReadWest has trained and caring volunteers to help you improve your reading or speaking abilities.

Adults 18 years and older can register.

There is no charge. Our program is free to our students.

It can take two months to match you with a tutor. We are continuously training new volunteers to help tutor. There are group classes you can attend while you wait for a tutor.

Once you are matched, you and your tutor will meet once a week for two hours in a public place, such as a library, church or here at ReadWest.

Stop by our office Monday – Thursday between the hours of 9am – 3pm to register. We will fill out the forms for you. There will be a brief oral English evaluation for students needing English or a brief, no pressure at all reading and spelling evaluation for students needing reading help. These are necessary for your tutor to know where to start helping you. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, just say so and we will stop the evaluation.
